I do agree with MG though that on the Sift people all too often watch 30 second clips (like this), make a TON of assumptions, and then act as if all of those assumptions are indisputable facts. I would really like to have seen the footage leading up to this clip. Clearly it exists, but the original poster probably felt that this edit would accurately get out his/her political message.

I fail to see how a state governor refusing a request from a politically weak and unpopular President constitutes proof that America is being broken up into city-states. And Arnie can stand up there and give press conferences with heads of state all he likes. In terms of his actual ability to sign a treaty with foreign powers, he has none. As environmental groups were quick to point out, the press conference amounted to nothing more than a symbolic gesture.

Zero Punctuation Review - Braid
First review in a long time that I actually LOL'd at multiple times and can agree with 100%. And I applaud his diatribe against the unwashed masses that continue to buy the same old crap in mass quantities (*hides DS copy of Final Fantasy IV). In all seriousness though, I play more HL deathmatch/original Counter-strike/Day of Defeat than any of the new stuff that's come out. The changes, at least in the FPS genre, are almost exclusively cosmetic.

The last hour before the world changed forever
I live on the West Coast and had gotten up early (before 6AM) and gone to my apartment's gym to work out. Because it was so early there was no one else in there. I was on the treadmill and had the TV on. The news was on and they were showing President Bush reading a book to kids, I think in Florida, when the aide comes in and interrupts him. The news commentators were speculating about what was going on, and then suddenly the broadcast cut to the World Trade Centers. I wasn't really paying attention so at first when I saw all the smoke I was wondering if it was the anniversary of the 1993 WTC bombings. That's when they played the footage of the first plane hitting the tower and I quite literally fell off the treadmill.

Watching this vid reminds me of different a place the world was pre-9/11. And yet, in some ways it is exactly the same. I think we as Americans still have no idea of what is really going on "out there" beyond our borders beyond what mass media spoon-feeds us.

And he couldn't possibly have meant, when he said "pull it," that they should pull out all firemen and equipment trying to save the building. Noooo, that wouldn't be possible at all. Plus we all know that firefighters are trained demolitions experts who at a moments notice are ready to wire and blow up any building they deem unsafe.

I also love the appeals to everything being "obvious" and the condescending attitude the speakers take. Who needs science and fact when things are obvious? Like, for instance, obviously we are the center of the universe because when we look at the sky it is obvious the sun and stars revolve around us. And it's so obvious the world is flat--you can see the edge of it every time you look at the horizon! And of course those towers falling... quite obviously the work of some government conspiracy.
